Overview:
This 8-hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) First Responder Operations training is typically required for those who take defensive actions to contain a hazardous substance release. SevenGen’s course provides first responders with information critical to work safely with emergency response teams to prevent the spread of hazardous materials. Participants will learn the importance of an effective release response plan and execution.
Who should take this course?
Employees who may be first on scene during an emergency, including those required to take defensive actions to help limit the effects of a spill.
Employers are responsible for determining which employees need HAZWOPER training based on their job roles and potential exposure to hazardous substances. Additionally, regulatory agencies such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) specifically mandate this training for certain industries and job functions.
8-hour HAZWOPER First Responder Operations will remain valid for 12 months from course completion.
Objectives:
SevenGen’s 8-Hour HAZWOPER First Responder Operations-level training addresses the important concepts of response, risk and hazard assessment (qualitative and quantitative) and actions that can be taken to safeguard people, the community, and our environment.
Participants will learn how to:
- Safely perform defensive response actions to prevent the spread of a hazardous substance release and prevent exposures.
- Properly select, use, and care for relevant personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators
- Describe the incident command system (ICS) and the importance of an effective hazardous substance release response.
Training Topics:
- Develop competency with basic hazardous materials vocabulary.
- Learning basic hazard and risk assessment techniques
- Selecting, fitting, and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- How to perform basic control, containment, or confinement operations within the employee’s capabilities
- Implement basic decontamination procedures.
